Stepping into Freddo Café in Hazelwood felt like entering a little oasis. The open space, lush greenery, and wooden accents immediately caught my eye, creating a vibrant yet calming ambiance.
It’s the perfect mix of modern and natural, with a playful seating arrangement that welcomes everyone—whether you’re there for a work session, a date, or a casual meet-up.
The vibe at Freddo Café is inviting and versatile. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and enthusiastic hellos. The staff set the tone for the experience, with both the manager and my server introducing themselves before ensuring I was comfortable. Throughout my visit, my server was attentive, checking in regularly and even recommending dishes that turned out to be absolute winners.
I decided to explore their summer menu, starting with one of their signature cocktails—a strawberry daiquiri. With its vibrant red hue, garnished with fresh mint leaves and strawberries, it was the perfect refresher for a hot summer day. The cocktail was fruity, chilled, and beautifully balanced, setting a delicious tone for what was to come.
Next up was one of their small plates: fried halloumi cubes. These weren’t just any halloumi bites—they were crispy, golden, and perfectly portioned. Each cube had the right balance of crunch and creaminess, paired with a sweet and spicy mayo that elevated the dish to another level. It’s safe to say this was one of the best halloumi dishes I’ve ever had.
For my main course, I went with a classic margherita pizza. This dish is a true test of any restaurant’s skills, and Freddo Café nailed it. The crust was thin and crispy, with just the right amount of char to give it that authentic wood-fired flavour. The cheese was stretchy and delicious, and the sweet tomato sauce tied everything together beautifully. It was a medium-sized pizza—enough to satisfy without leaving you overly full.
Of course, no meal is complete without dessert. Based on my server’s recommendation, I tried the Toasted Croissant with chocolate hazelnut gelato, and I’m so glad I did. The croissant was buttery, flaky, and perfectly crisp, served warm alongside a generous scoop of creamy gelato. The combination of textures and flavours was divine, especially with the smooth chocolate sauce drizzled on the plate. The dish was even decorated with a delicate flower and artistic chocolate patterns, making it a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds.
What impressed me most about Freddo Café was their attention to detail in both presentation and flavour. Every dish was thoughtfully plated—from the halloumi served on a long, sleek plate to the pizza arriving on a branded cutting board. The dessert was stunning, with little touches that made it feel extra special. Portion sizes were generous yet well-balanced, ensuring every dish left you satisfied.
The summer menu is a true highlight at Freddo Café. It features diverse options, including small plates, cocktails, and indulgent desserts, perfect for enjoying in the sunny season. Beyond the summer specials, their full menu caters to all cravings, with everything from breakfast and sandwiches to sliders, pizza, pasta, and grills. And let’s not forget their sweet offerings—an entire section dedicated to desserts that will tempt any sweet tooth.
I went solo this time, turning the visit into a little work-date. Freddo Café offers Wi-Fi, making it an excellent spot for working while enjoying great food and drinks. The relaxed atmosphere, combined with the vibrant energy of the café, made it easy to focus and unwind at the same time.
Reflecting on my experience, it’s clear that Freddo Café is more than just a restaurant—it’s a space that brings people together. Whether you’re there to work, catch up with friends, or enjoy a quiet moment alone, the staff, ambiance, and menu make it a place you’ll want to return to.
Would I go back? Absolutely! There’s so much more I’m eager to try, from their cheesecake options to more gelato flavours and a few cocktails I spotted on the menu. Freddo Café has secured a top spot on my list of Hazelwood gems, and I can’t wait for my next visit.
